Windows to the Inside
Calming Shapes and Textures
A big thank you to those of you who have contributed money to my next film project. It is a sequel to my film YUP. You can help fund this campaign at the link below by donating or sharing:
First, I changed my mind.
Last week, I gave a behind-the-scenes peek at how I create digital art. The end result of this reveal was a promotional flyer for my next show happening on December 7 at the French House. After some deliberation, I decided to go with a different design. I loved the original art I came up with, but I feel that it did not convey what I wanted to say. So then, as some of you may have already seen on Instagram and Facebook, here is the new flyer:
It is always the artist’s prerogative to change his mind. The artwork in this flyer is an actual ink drawing I made several years ago. I scanned it to make it digital, and then I finished it in Photoshop. I added text with different fonts and colors and gave it all a bit more angularity in its composition. I am more pleased with this now.
2025 has been a full year thus far. The times when I can sit and draw are moments of calm when my mind can break away from the constant pull of obligations, tasks, and a 24-hour news cycle that saddens me and stresses me out. When I draw, there is no rush. My hands guide my path on the paper while my eyes keep tabs on the bigger picture.
Have a look at what I have been slowly drawing lately. These spaces are warm and calm.
COLOR NOTEBOOK
My older sister gave me two sets of metallic markers for my birthday last summer. I have never used these kinds of markers before, so I thought I would do a test run. I drew a grid of equal-sized squares and made a mosaic of sorts by combining a few of the warm and cool tones.
There is something strangely harmonious about these tones. They neither overpower nor clash with each other. I am not yet sure what I will create with them, but I have a feeling it will be fun.
ABSTRACT FLOWERS
What if a flower had arms and hands? What would that look like?
This is how my brain answered these questions.
DIGITAL ART
I am always enamored of the sun, even though I cannot look at it directly. We are a long way off from its future as a dying star when it will collapse into itself. Until then, I marvel at its power and life-giving force.
With so much violence and corruption in the world right now, I need to have tranquility in places deep within. I have no control over the deafening noise of capitalist greed and genocide, but my interior life is mine to shape.
When I need some private comfort, I close my windows and stay inside.
