The month of May was a hectic and tough time period for me. A couple of weeks ago, I revealed a laundry list of ailments that have been plaguing me here on WPR. Lower back pain, a sore right heel, headaches, stomach aches, nausea, and diarrhea kept me largely restrained and in pain. I am happy to report that last week I began to feel better just in time to prepare for my dear husband MaxZine’s big 60th birthday party this past Saturday. (Pictured above is that very same party at our friend Xyla’s house up the hill from us. You can see the carefully-plotted, jewel-toned lighting design I implemented for the darker half of the evening. I was healthy enough to drown the party spaces in lots of pink, balloons, and many unicorns.)
My road to wellness continues. I do lots of stretching and light yoga early in the morning. I drink plenty of fluids and take nap breaks whenever necessary. I spend time outside in my garden. I eat fresh veggies from our garden every day. I sing and play music as much as possible.
And of course, I make art.
Visual art affords me a calm respite from the daily adulting that keeps my life moving. I unleash all of my creative sensibilities without any concern about anyone else’s opinions. Mostly, I indulge in the sweet, tactile fun of it all.

COLOR NOTEBOOK
I want to draw more faces. This one was a doodle based on a martial arts figure. As with a lot of my drawings, I try not to overthink it and simply let it flow.
ABSTRACT FLOWERS
With these flowers, I generally have no idea what I will draw when I open the notebook to the next blank page. I usually take a few minutes to stare at the empty canvas before I let the pencil guide me. After I create a shape, I discern where the lighter and darker tones need to live.
ILLUSTRATED JOURNAL
I drew a two-page spread of the more notable events of the month of May. My life is full in many good ways.
STILL LIFE
MaxZine celebrated his birthday surrounded by a community of dear friends. Folks traveled from across the country to be here for this occasion. He was pretty in pink that night and was very much loved.
